Thank you for your feedback. The pedestrian recall mode is a temporary measure to address the spread of COVID-19, however is part of an ongoing process to improve our pedestrian signalization. As we phase out of pedestrian recall mode we will also move away from the previously seen dedicated crossing mode to pedestrian crossings activating concurrently with the parallel flow of traffic. We are hoping to begin deploying these improvements soon in the downtown and hospital districts, followed by the Whalley corridor and then extending to the rest of city. Adjusting the citywide signal plan requires significant time and fiscal allocation and we appreciate your patience and understanding during implementation.

Your explanation makes no sense.
The pedestrian pushbuttons are still present and still being pressed. That’s human nature.

It's a bit confusing, but here is another explanation. Hopefully, you will understand it. Since the start of the COVID-19 epidemic, our city has been trying to lessen the spread of the disease. One way was the implementation of "pedestrian recall mode". That doesn't mean the buttons have been removed. It only means nobody needs to press the buttons at any cross walks that have cross-walk buttons.

Of course the buttons still exist, so virtually everyone stills presses those buttons. I'm guilty too. I still press those buttons because I've been mentally conditioned to press those buttons since I was about 4 years old, while I only learned for the first time in my life that I no longer need to press those buttons.

It is obvious the plan to incorporate a "pedestrian recall mode" at intersections with cross-walk buttons was not researched by any behavioral psychologists. The decision was made in haste and the decision was made to appease to the wishes of people who urgently wanted to see our local government taking all possible measures to decrease the spread of the disease.

The decision to incorporate "pedestrian recall mode" was found to outway the complaints of not incorporating "pedestrian recall mode".
